How to Install a Popup Drain Stopper in a Bathroom Sink

You will need to set a new drain stopper when installing a new sink. Sometimes, installing a new faucet comes with a stopper assembly that substitutes the old cork. If the sink drain starts to drip, buy a new stopper assembly to change the old one. Installation is easy. Sometimes, the building may become difficult due to changes in a fitting.

1. What is a Popup Drain?

A popup drain assembly is a drain that provides a selection to lock your drain. It keeps water by pushing on it to close and to open. Popup drains build in two distinct options with overflow or without overflow opening.

2. How does it work?

In most bathroom sinks, the drain stopper device is a popup assemblage that works this way. The small vertical bar links to a pivot bar underneath the sink; this lift rod slides up and down via a small gap in the back of the faucet body. The pivot rod moves the link inside the drain end, reducing the stopper as required.

3. Before Going to Start

Sink plugs are accessible in various metal completions for channel rings and plug to match spigot equipment. The descending drain assembly is built of solid metal or more affordable plastic. Skilled handypersons around feel that metal assemblies are most promising. However, plastic popup assemblages are suitable for DIYers. However, rather apt to breakage, considering over-fix the nuts during installation.

Also, the conventional popup corks operate a lift rod, turn rod, and inner ball to lift and lower the pin. There are spring-stacked sink spigots with none of these turn parts. These plugs look like channel corks, now famous for baths. These spring-stacked spigots are open and close by pushing down the pin from inside the sink. One push down makes the spigot lock in the closed position.

The last push gives the plug and permits the inward spring to push it back up to the vacant position. These stoppers are worth assuming, as they are effortless to introduce. However, the buyer must reach through standing water to give the plug and channel the sink.

Pro Tip:

When the Plumber fits an entire bathroom sink and faucet assembly, they often work while the vanity top removes from the lower side. It is easier to connect the faucet and different components with open access. You will introduce the plug assembly on a sink and ledge set up and ample in any situation.

Usually, working from underneath the sink, inside the vanity bureau. The process for raising the popup plug assembly is very similar. However, the work will look changed. It might consider more troubling because of the limited access.

What you will need

Tools/Equipment

  • Channel type pliers
  • Bucket

Material

  • Plumber’s putty
  • Pipe joint compound
  • Popup drain assembly

Instructions

1) Remove the Old Drain Assembly

Using channel-type pliers, remove the P-trap from the fork and sink drain ends. To can also lose some traps by hand, without the wrench. Some water may be present, so put the Bucket below the hitch to catch the water. Left out the previous popup linkage assembly, if present. Apply channel-type pliers to remove the mounting nut from the end of the old drain assembly.

To clear the complete sink, lift over the entire drain assembly. It may need wiggling to break the lock on the drain flange. When the body removes, clean the sink completely from leftover material.

2) Prepare the new popup drain stopper

Disassemble the parts of the new popup assembly. Unscrew and pull the mounting nut from the drain end. Fit the plastic cleaner and rubber cleaner and propel them down on the top of the mounting bolt.

3) Use Pipe Joint Compound

Employ a light layer of tube joint mixture to the upper part of the rubber cleaner to fix against the sink. It uses the joint compound on the rubber. It will assure that the seals against the base of the sink chute onset. A pipe joint is not compulsory, but it might have a problem acquiring the rubber seal without this.

4) Use Plumber’s Putty

Apply a gracious drip of Plumber’s putty to the bottom of the flange on the sink chute ring. The putty will aid the top piece of the drain body seal against the sink drain outlet. Use silicone caulk if the Plumber’s putty cannot use it on your kind of sink. Some popup assemblages arrive with a rubber gasket to operate instead of a plumber’s putty or caulk.

5) Attach the Drain Components

Pull the pop drain assembly up via the drain outlet beneath the sink as high as possible. In contrast, they were carrying the drain part in position. Check the drain ring into the slot from the overhead sink. Weave the ring onto the drain end piece as distant as you can by hand.

6) Tighten the drain assembly

Keep the drain end piece static with one hand from below the sink. Pull the mounting nut upward towards the bottom of the sink. Make sure the opening in the end piece points back toward the wall. Pull the mounting nut channel-type pliers while retaining the end piece in position.

Do not overtighten the nut, but make sure it is safe. That drain assembly does not spin in the drain opening.

7) Put the drain cork into place.

Insert the popup cork down the drain opening inside the sink. Make sure the gap in the linkage is facing towards the back of the sink. Put the pivot rod into the beginning and the end piece below the sink. Typically, there is plastic cleaner on both sides of the plastic ball. You would free the tip of the pivot rod slide via the opening in the cork linkage inner the drain assembly.

Tighten the pivot bar nut into the cord, working along with the end piece. The ball will tie inside the end piece. Check the motion of the pivot rod to ensure the cork moves up and down freely in the drain. Tighten the nut if the popup is operating. If the popup is not working, push the pin and pivot the rod, so the parts attach perfectly.

8) Install the Popup Lever

Provide the perpendicular popup lever via the gap behind the faucet’s spigot before connecting the horizontal pivot rod to the vertical lever. Make sure the cork is in the open position. From under the sink, fasten the connecting strap at the end of the vertical popup lever. Pull the screw on the connecting strap to restrain it to the pivot bar.

9) Attach the Popup Lever and Pivot Rod.

Attach the vertical cincture to the horizontal pivot rod by weaving the spring clip on the rod. One end of the clip connects to each side of the strap. Review to ensure that the popup cork unlocks and shuts inside the drain outlet. Change the rod connection by swiping and pushing the spring hook if this does not.

10) Re-assemble the drain trap

Complete the work by rejoining the P-trap to the drainpipe and drain end piece. Shut the cork and fill the sink with water to check the leakage. Unlock the pin and permit the water to sap out. By doing this, you will identify either leakage or not. Suppose you detect leakage, the tie that leaks slightly tightly with channel-type pliers. Remember one thing, do not over tighten them.
